25 King St, Sydney – (Former City Bank of Sydney)

Project Location: 25 King St, Sydney

Duration: 2017

Scope of contracting works:

Full restoration of original pressed metal ceilings across the ground and first floors of a heritage-listed building. Pattern reproduction, repair of damaged sections, and sympathetic integration of new metal panels with the original designs.

Project Description:

Sydney Pressed Metal was engaged to carry out the ceiling restoration of a landmark 1891 building located at 25 King Street in Sydney’s CBD – formerly the City Bank of Sydney and Post Office.

Our scope of works involved restoring the intricate pressed metal ceilings throughout the ground floor and first floor, retaining the character and architectural integrity of the original designs. The building’s historic features required precise reproduction and matching of traditional patterns used during the late 19th century.

Each panel was carefully removed, assessed, and either restored or replaced with a reproduction using traditional pressing techniques. New metal panels were pressed to match the original profiles and were seamlessly integrated to ensure consistency across the restored ceilings.

Given the age of the structure and the delicate condition of some areas, the project demanded a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail – especially in preserving the symmetry and patina of the ceiling design while meeting modern durability standards.

This heritage restoration project remains a proud example of our team’s ability to deliver precise and respectful restorations that preserve Sydney’s architectural legacy.
