Project Location: Elizabeth & Goulburn Streets, Sydney CBD
Crown Hotel – Sydney
Timing: 2023
Scope of contracting works:
Restoration of heritage awning, fascia and soffit linings in pressed metal; cleaning, repair, treatment for corrosion resistance and longevity.
Project Description:
Sydney Pressed Metal draws on five generations of craftsmanship that have contributed to the city’s fabric since the early 1900s. The Metters Building on Elizabeth Street—built in 1914 by our ancestors, WR Gawne & Sons—stands beside the Crown Hotel on the corner of Elizabeth and Goulburn Streets, where our contemporary team recently undertook meticulous heritage works. The project involved cleaning and repairing the pressed-metal awning, fascia and soffit linings, applying rust inhibitors, and matching original profiles to protect and celebrate the building’s Federation-era character for the next century.
The renovation encompassed a modern addition to the heritage frontage. Sydney Pressed Metal was able to clean the existing original pressed metal ceilings, treat with rust inhibitor and patch and repair damaged areas.
