How to choose a pressed metal splashback pattern for your room

Dark pressed metal splashback beside a kitchen window in the SPM gallery
An existing SPM splashback project. Use gallery photographs to compare a visual direction.

Start with the size and layout of the splashback, then compare a small shortlist of patterns alongside the room’s other surfaces. A gallery image can help you choose a visual direction. SPM still needs to confirm the pattern, panel dimensions, repeat, material and finish for your project.

This guide is a way to organise your choices before an enquiry. For the product range and project-specific advice, visit SPM’s pressed metal splashbacks page.

1. Look at the whole wall before choosing a pattern

Take a photograph showing the splashback area together with the bench, cupboards, windows and nearby fittings. Note the approximate width and height of each section. A narrow strip and a larger uninterrupted wall give you different amounts of space in which to view a design.

Use those photographs to compare your options in context. As a visual exercise, ask whether you want the splashback to be a main feature or to sit quietly alongside the cabinetry and benchtop. This is a design preference, rather than a rule about which pattern suits a particular room.

2. Make a shortlist you can explain

Browse the kitchen splashback designs and installed splashback gallery. Choose two or three references, rather than trying to settle every detail at once.

  • Save the pattern name and the relevant product or gallery link.
  • Note what you like: the shape, visual rhythm or overall appearance.
  • Compare each reference with the same photograph of your room.
  • Mark any interrupted areas, such as windows or corners, for discussion with SPM.

A photograph of a completed project can show how a pattern looks in a room. It does not establish the exact scale or configuration that will be used in yours. Ask SPM to confirm panel dimensions and repeat before specifying a design.

3. Keep pattern, material and finish as separate decisions

First identify the pattern you like. Then describe your preferred appearance and the application. Do not assume that the colour in a photograph identifies the underlying metal or the finish system.

If you are considering a metallic appearance, use the brass and copper gallery as a reference and ask SPM to confirm what can be quoted. Ask about sample availability where it would help you make a decision.

4. Send the shortlist with the project details

Include photographs or plans where useful, dimensions (marked as approximate or exact), the suburb or postcode, whether you need supply only or installation, and your preferred timeframe. Identify relevant cut-outs, returns and general power outlets (GPOs). Show cooking appliances and their position in the photographs. Suitability around appliances must be confirmed for the project, material, finish and installation requirements.

Questions before you make a final choice

Can I choose a pattern from an SPM gallery photograph?

Yes. Send the photograph or page link and any pattern name shown. SPM can confirm current availability and the details needed to specify it.

Will the finished splashback look exactly like the photograph?

Treat the photograph as a visual reference. Confirm the material, finish and pattern details with SPM, and ask whether a sample is available.

Discuss your shortlist with SPM

You do not need to have every choice settled to start an enquiry. Send your references and room details, and identify the decisions you would like help with.
