Acoustic performance and technical information
Acoustic ratings apply to a tested assembly, including its panel, perforations, backing and mounting arrangement. Any performance information used for specification needs to match the proposed system.
Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) is a laboratory measure of sound absorption. It is not a percentage reduction in room noise or a measure of soundproofing between rooms.
We review the relevant product documentation as part of the specification and quoting process. Acoustic targets, fire requirements, fixing details, service access and finish compatibility are addressed for the selected system and project, with any outstanding requirements identified before specification.
Planning your project with SPM
We develop the pressed-metal scope around your design and acoustic brief, confirm system details and prepare a project-specific quote. Supply and installation responsibilities, access and programme are agreed as part of that scope.
To get started, send:
- The project location, building use, ceiling area and height.
- Photos, plans or a reflected ceiling plan, if available.
- Your preferred pattern and finish, plus any heritage constraints.
- The acoustic consultant’s brief, performance target or sound issue you want to address.
- Details of the existing ceiling or proposed support system, services and access.
- Your required supply or installation scope, timeframe and budget, if known.
Send what you have, even if some details are still being developed. For broader ceiling work, see our pressed metal ceiling services.
Acoustic pressed-metal ceiling FAQs
Will an acoustic pressed-metal ceiling soundproof a room?
Sound absorption manages reflected sound within a space. Preventing sound from travelling between rooms requires a separate assessment of the building. An absorption rating should not be treated as a sound isolation rating.
Can any pressed-metal pattern be made acoustic?
Not automatically. The design, material, perforations and backing need to work together. Send your preferred pattern so SPM can confirm the acoustic options for your project.
Can acoustic pressed metal be used on a wall?
A wall application needs its own product and fixing review. Tell us where the panels will be used so we can assess the requirements; a ceiling specification should not automatically be transferred to a wall.
Discuss your acoustic ceiling project
Bring decorative detail and acoustic treatment into the same project brief. Send SPM your plans, design preferences and acoustic requirements to discuss the scope and request a quote.
